There is no silver bullet or precise equation for how to end childhood sexual violence (CSV). It is a pervasive and complex problem that impacts people of all social, economic, and cultural backgrounds. Stopping CSV requires involvement across society with a variety of approaches and many different solutions being carried out at the same time.
Based on interviews with almost 70 organization leaders, researchers, policymakers, and innovators—both within the sector working to end CSV and in adjacent fields—Solutions Insights Lab mapped the ecosystem of interdependent actors and pulled out the key variables and actions needed to effectively intervene and create sustainable solutions.
Ending CSV requires—at minimum—building multidisciplinary teams and collaborative communities, normalizing conversations on a topic people prefer not to speak about, ensuring survivors’ voices are centered (and that they and their families have the resources they need to heal and demand accountability), engaging governments to fund and scale prevention programs, developing the political will to pass legislation that compels institutional accountability (including regulating the tech industry), and strengthening the infrastructure of the field through funding and other resources.
